Saputara

The only hill resort of Gujarat, one of the few in India to be developed from scratch after independence, Saputara is best known for it's splendid hill views and like most hill stations has a lake. It also has a tribal museum and nearby are very aboriginal tribal hamlets, waterfalls including the huge Gira falls, Mahal-Bardipada wildlife sanctuary, Bansda national park and Maratha hill forts. From here, you can plan trips to the temples of Nashik and holy Shirdi.

The only hill resort in Rajasthan, Mt Abu is a comfortable driving distance of around 6 hours from Ahmedabad. The Nakki lake of Mt Abu is one of the finest hill station lakes in the whole of India, and the 11th century Dilwara temples have perhaps the finest marble sculpture in the country. The Sunset point, scenic view points, the high Guru Shikar peak, holy Gaumukh, Brahmakumari ashram, some heritage hotels and a wildlife sanctuary are among Abu's many fascinations.

Mandu

One of the most enchanting destinations in Madya Pradesh, Mandu has a history dating back to 555 AD, and had considerable political significance as a Rajput citadel from the 11th century onwards despite a conquest by All-ud-din Khilji. It remained an important city after being conquered by the Gujarat sultanate and later by the Mughals. The huge battlemented fort contains palaces, mosques and pavilions offering fabulous views of the Vindya hills in a variety of Hindu, Muslim and Indo-Saracenic style. It offers a magical atmosphere.
